Adelaide’s Hottest Up and Coming Acts – Thursday Nights on the Main Stage at The Gov! In case you missed it, Turnaround Presents have been busy programming DAYLIGHT SAVINGS, a four-part series of local showcases to kick things off at The Gov in 2021.Daylight Savings takes place on the main stage every Thursday night in January; where you can see, hear and enjoy some of your favourite local up-and-coming bands in an intimate setting. If the first announcement was enough to whet your appetite, the second instalment is going to satisfy even the hungriest of music-lovers.January 21 is dominated by pop-punk anthems with a grunge-tinge thanks to Wing Defence, SODA and The Vains; this will be a show for any indie-rock music fan to enjoy.January 28 rounds out the series knee-deep in the realm of fusion-jazz and funky grooves that draw on all the best elements of world-music with Slowmango and Mystery Sea Creature and a surprise guest act. So, for those who err on the side of experimental, this one’s for you.January 21:Wing Defence:Indie outfit Wing Defence hit the court hard in their breakout singles, unleashing banger after banger, scoring international radio play and touring their native Australia. Backing it up with festival sets at indie festival Laneway Festival and Groovin the Moo, the duo have shown they’ve got the fast footwork to go the distance. Describing their sound as pop/punk and taking inspiration from across the decades, Wing Defence cite their references from No Doubt to CERES and Michelle Branch. Their collaborative, team-oriented approach to songwriting has gained the duo’s catchy, thought-provoking anthems plays all across triple j, charting on the Germany radio charts, and scored themselves 2 major gongs (Best Group & Best Release) at the 2020 South Australian Music Awards.Soda:In its simplest form, SODA is an experience. Genre defying performances aimed to reach the seat of your being. Music to integrate crowds, unifying people within sound for them to freely express themselves. Art-Rock would be a fitting label for the sound, as the experience moves past sound and involves visual aspects portrayed through social media. The Vains:The Vains are a female driven, patriarchy smashing rock quartet. Their gritty vocals are underpinned by wailing guitar riffs and a punchy rhythm section. Inspired by Blondie, The Divinyls and Bikini Kill, these glam rockers will hook you in with high-energy anthems that are equally grungy and melodic.Formed in the winter of 2019, The Vains have been incredibly busy releasing their first single Low Expectations and frequently performing at Adelaide’s most loved live music venues.January 28:Secret Headliner TBASlowmangoSlowmango blend influences from around the world into a sweet and savoury buffet of international groove, with far reaching influences ranging from Ethio Jazz to Peruvian Psych, Arabic Funk to West-African Disco, and a desire to start a band which blurs the borders between music and visual art. Over the past year the five-piece have found a sweet-spot between their global inspirations, developing a sound which invokes moments of compulsive danceability and upbeat celebration, without forgetting Sunday mornings and afternoon drives.Mystery Sea CreatureMystery Sea Creature are psychedelic folk-rockers from Adelaide who encompass the chill-indie vibes you need after a long day at the 9 - 5. Inspired by artists like The Empty Threats, The Montreals and Immy Owusu.
